Reading Reflection No.1
Reading Reflection No.1
1) You read about an entrepreneur: I chose to read about Coco Chanel, written by Lisa Chaney
· What surprised you the most?
- What surprised me the most about Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was her rough background. She is known today for her talents of fashion, but many people may not realize how much troubles she went through and engaged in through adulthood
· What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
- What I admire most about Coco Chanel is despite all the hardships she faced and went through; she was able to do something positive with her life and talents and has made a mark still till this day in the fashion industry
· What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
- What I do not admire about her is the choices she decided to make in life, some being not so smart and an activity I would ever personally engage in myself
· Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
- Yes, she did indeed. Everyone thought she was well off when indeed she was going through a lot of personal failure and had to keep working to make the brand that is well-known today
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
o Although she chose to engage in some questionable activities, she was very passionate and hardworking towards her fashion lines and put her heart into everything she created
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
o Some ways in which the book uses different tones to talk about the dark things she went through would confuse me to understand and would take a second to realize what was going on
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
o What passion drove you to create the remarkable brand you have so well established till this day?
o What drove you to engage in such rebellious activities?
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
o I think she truly enjoyed making women’s dresses and although may seem like hard work to those around, she was very happy with what she was responsible for doing
o I agree with her view on her work, hard work should be centered around something you love to do
Hey Sydney,
ReplyDeleteI am also surprised to find that Gabrielle Chanel came from a rough background as many times we see large name brands like hers and think, "they must have it all!". Its important to understand where people come from and how that affects their future decisions, such as "engaging in some questionable activities". It is great to see a women, despite her hardships and poor decisions, come out in the end a successful business women.
