Testing the Hypothesis, Part Two
Testing the Hypothesis, Part Two
· Who: Throughout my interviews, I began to analysis who would be considered “outside” of my market. At first, I thought this would be difficult to point out because I believed many people around me had this, which they do, but there is a broader group of people to look at. After listening to one interviewee and asking her opinion on Library West adding more selections of booths, she simply told me she doesn’t even study at Library West.
o This is a group of people I did not originally look at. Along with two other people I chose to interview they told me they do not go to West because their group likes to gather and meet up at Newall or Marston Library.
o Another interviewee expressed to me they don’t automatically search for a booth at West because they enjoy going to the study rooms or the big tables on the fourth floor.
· What: one interviewee expressed to me that even though West could add more selections of booths, there will always be the same problem with searching for an empty booth because it is impossible to add enough to sit all students who choose to go study at Library West.
· Why: I feel like this need can be seen as specific and “different” because wanting to add more booths to Library West is a very specific need that is shared amongst a group of people. There are also simply those who do not care or don’t even go to West for a booth or even go to West at all.
Inside the Boundary Outside the Boundary
Who - Students who use the booths at West - Those who do not look for a booth Students who spend hours at West - Students who do not even go to West
What - Make the effort to add the additional booths - Leave West the way it is
Why - Provide comfort and space to those who spend - Make an addition to the hours upon hours studying for an exam University that’s beneficial to many
Hi Sydney, thank you for the post. I think that feedback you received will really help refine the practicality of this opportunity. It is humbling to see that not everyone goes to library west. Even that will help widen your range to see the limits on this opportunity. Is may be possible that other study spaces on campus offer this opportunity solution and you can use these as a reference to adopt for your solution. Thanks.
