Solving the Problem

Solving the Problem
My opportunity is to add more booths to Library West for students to use. The product in mind to potentially solve this issue is more booths or something of this sort to add into Library West. I believe that Library West is very large and has lots of sections that may not crowded normally. Within these sections on different floors, West can make the addition and add the booths. Additionally, we can spread out the booths on different floors based on noise levels so those who would like to collaborate and talk to those would who like to work quietly can enjoy the same quality of studying. I think this opportunity will benefit many students at large and could potentially make more students feel more motivated to go to the Library and get their work done.

  1. Hello Sydney,
I am not from your group but I am commenting in order to get ahead, BTW it was a struggle to find someone else who had completed this assignment as early as me. In my opinion, your opportunity is great advice for Library West, but I struggle to see how it is a lucrative entrepreneurial opportunity. Maybe you could create a chain of study-oriented mini-libraries, that could compete with current "study friendly" business like starbucks. The chain could also become the saving grace of libraries and make them a new and popular thing for 2020.

  2. It seems that by adding more booths to the library, the problem may be fixed overall. It's best to add booths than having to worry about people talking, especially when it's a matter of studying for a heavy exam for an important subject that you are working on. You can maybe even build special booths filled with specific technology such as charging stations and more to help you stay longer amounts of time.

  3. Sydney,

I like how you included adding booths on all floors, not just the collaborative, noisy floors. Personally, sometimes I like to go to the library with my friends so that we can all sit together, but not necessarily talk. This is an instance where it would be beneficial for their to be group seating on the upper levels of the library.

  4. Hi Sydney,
This is definitely one of the solutions I would like to see most in place on the UF campus and also it seems to be one of the ones that would be easiest to implement. Getting a booth is so hard to do, even when it is not exam season. Whether or not I'm working with a group or just studying with friends, a booth is one of the best places to do it. I'm sure UF has the funds, but probably don't see it as worth it to do currently.

  5. Hi Sydney, I think this is a great idea because so many people agree that they wish there were more booths in Library West. Something I feel would also be beneficial is adding single-person booths. For example, a table with a small booth or just a chair-sized booth for people who want the comfort but don't necessarily want to study with a group of people. This would allow the larger booths to stay open for groups who are actually going to utilize them to the greatest extend with multiple people at one table! Just a thought. Good luck and I hope this can actually be implemented one day!

  6. Hi Sydney,
It is interesting to think of the concept of spreading out booths on different floors. The noise level distribution at library west is definitely effective now, so adding booths to different floors would ensure different study spaces are included at different noise levels. It is important to consider the cost of implementing this solution. There will be less space to work individually - but maybe that is what you are thinking is the best solution (so Library west will be more balanced in seating). I agree with Carter, mini-study libraries with a variety of study spaces would fulfill this opportunity, although this would also not be very profitable, unless you sell food along with it. Possibly consider a reservation service or some sort of tool you can sell that helps with facilitating space for groups.
